Google has finally introduced its ‘Circle to Search’ feature to iPhones, bringing an advanced visual search experience to Apple users. Originally launched for Android in early 2024, the feature lets users search for information by circling, tapping, or highlighting objects on their screens. However, iPhone users will face some limitations compared to Android.
How ‘Circle to Search’ works on iPhones
Unlike its seamless system-wide functionality on Android, iPhone users will need the Google Lens app to access this feature. Branded as “Screen Search with Google Lens”, it is currently limited to Google apps and Chrome, restricting its full potential. To use it, users must tap the three-dot menu in these apps and select Google Lens to highlight or draw around objects for instant search results.
Chrome integration and AI-powered enhancements
Google is enhancing Chrome for iOS by making searches more interactive and intuitive. Instead of taking screenshots or switching tabs, users can visually search for objects while browsing. Google also plans to add a Lens icon in the Chrome address bar, making it easier to initiate searches directly.
Additionally, Google is integrating AI Overviews into Google Lens, offering richer insights about landmarks, plants, and products by displaying detailed context alongside search results.
What’s next for iPhone users?
Despite its limited functionality, ‘Circle to Search’ marks a step toward a more AI-driven search experience for iPhone users. As Google expands its image recognition and AI capabilities, future updates may bring a more integrated and system-wide experience on iOS.
